The Alaska Society of American Foresters is one of 30 societies forming the Society of American Foresters (SAF). Our society is comprised of professional foresters and forestry students throughout the state of Alaska. The Alaska Society is divided into five chapters: Cook Inlet, Yukon River, Dixon Entrance, Sitka, and Juneau.

Our society held its first meeting on November 22, 1954. At that time, we were called the Alaska Chapter of the Puget Sound Section, which also included Washington and Oregon. A number of well-known foresters were instrumental in creating our society, including Ray Taylor, John Sandor, and Paul Haack.

Activities and functions of the Alaska Society of American Foresters are ruled by a set of bylaws adopted August 26, 1997, and revised November 2002 (PDF). The AKSAF Executive Committee holds monthly teleconferences to discuss and govern activities of the state society.  The minutes of these meetings back to January 2011 are available HERE
